Test your Drive SMART skills

Surrey County Council and Surrey Police have launched a new website as part of their Drive SMART campaign so drivers can test their road skills and behaviour and report incidents of anti-social driving.

The Drive SMART website (www.drivesmartsurrey.org.uk) lets people play an interactive game that tests skills and shows how different anti-social driving behaviours can affect your driving.

Drive SMART is a year-long joint campaign run by the two organisations to tackle the issue of anti-social driving which Surrey residents consider a major issue.

The website also provides up to date information on the different elements of the campaigns, such as SMART Speed highlighting speeding, Park SMART tackling anti-social parking, and Talk SMART focussing on the use of mobile phones while driving.

The website will provide advice and tips on how people can avoid anti-social driving behaviour as well as letting people report incidents using the 'Contact Us' form which links straight through to Surrey Police. It will also show how the public can get involved in activities like Community Speedwatch to help make Surrey’s roads safer.

Cabinet Member for Community Safety Kay Hammond said: “This website is a great addition to the campaign. The interactive game in particular brings home to you the damage your driving behaviour can do without you having to actually take the risk on the road or endanger other lives. And it is a great way of letting people know what’s coming up as the campaign moves from one issue to another."

Assistant Chief Constable Ian Dyson said: “The launch of the Drive SMART website brings a whole new dimension to the campaign, offering advice to motorists on driving more carefully and considerately to pose less risk to themselves and other road users and giving them the opportunity to test and improve their driving skills. This can only help to boost our aim of reducing the number of people killed and seriously injured on Surrey’s roads and raise drivers’ awareness of the impact that anti-social driving has on communities."
